Here, you calculate the cost of interchanges that provide access to and exit from state highways.
The cost of interchanges varies widely, with the least expensive in rural areas, the most expensive in urban ones. Since 2000, KDOT has added about one interchange a year to the system.
About half of these interchanges were built in rural areas where there was little existing development. The average cost was about $10 million. Most of the other interchange projects were in the medium range - about $50 million - and took place in areas whose development made the projects more expensive. The most expensive interchange built since 2000 was at I-435 and Antioch Road in Overland Park. Its costs were in the high cost range, nearly $100 million.
